The Côte d’Azur or also commonly known as the French Riviera is Frances southern coast stretching from the Italian border to Hyeres. It is one of the oldest resorts areas starting as a winter health resort for the British in the late 18th century. Gaining in popularity with the advent of railway travel it became the playground for British and Russian aristocrats in the middle of the 19th century.
